What kind of commitment do I have to make?

What kind of commitment do I have to make?
Embarking on a MBA is a considerable commitment in terms of time, money, family, energy and relationships. If you are also employed there may also need to be a strong commitment from your employer.

Financial
The cost of MBA programmes varies between institutions and also programme types. e.g. Executive programme, part time, full time or distance learning.

The range for New Zealand residents wishing to study in this country is

$18,000 - $30,000.

Non New Zealand residents course costs are comparatively more expensive and go up to $NZ35,000.

Time
Most MBA courses put students under heavy workload pressures requiring priorities to be juggled. While this is considered to be part of the programme and preparation for general management it can also be a challenge for families and sometimes employers.

Most courses will require about 20 hours study per week outside of direct class room time. Part time programmes spread over a number of years obviously will require less time on a weekly basis ut nonetheless require dedication and application to succeed.

Energy
Because of the intensity of the programme you will need to be highly motivated to succeed, have stamina and ability to focus.

Family
If you have a partner and or children it is important that they are aware of the competing pressures of the MBA programme. Many business schools run seminars for spouses so that they are fully briefed and so that they also have a support network.
